Julius Eduard Marak

Julius Marak (1832 - 1899) is known for Painting.

Julius Eduard Marak was born in 1832 and grew up in comfortable circumstances.  He began his career as a painter in 1852 by joining the landscape painting class of Maximilian Haushofer (1811–1866) at the Prague Academy.  One year later he moved to Munich where he continued his education with Leopold Rottmann (1812–1881) and Eduard Schleich (1812–1874).

From 1860 he lived in Vienna where he worked as a private graphics teacher and illustrator for various newspapers.  In 1882 he contributed to the new design of the National Theatre.   From 1887 he taught the class for landscape painting at the Prague Academy.

He had a considerable impact on 19th century Czech landscape painting.  Marak's work is considered the final refinement of this school and he is regarded as an important figure of the late romanticism whose paintings excel in conveying poetic and subtle sentiments.
