John N McGhie

John N McGhie (1867 - 1952) was active/lived in United Kingdom, Scotland.  John McGhie is known for Figure, seascape, genre painting.

John McGhie was a Scottish artist born in 1867 in Lanark, Scotland. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London under John Everett Millais. He continued his education at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he was exposed to various artistic movements. He settled in the fishing village of Pittenweem on the Firth of Forth and began painting the sea and landscapes around him. He later started to capture the people and fishermen of his adopted home in his work. McGhie was known for his seascape and portrait paintings and enjoyed great success throughout his career. He exhibited his work in Glasgow and London and participated in a Royal Academy exhibition in 1911.
