Jack Roth

Jack (Rodney) Roth (1927 - 2004) was active/lived in New Jersey, New York.  Jack Roth is known for Abstract expressionist painting.

The following information  was submitted by the artist's widow, Rachel Roth:

Jack Roth (1927-2004) got a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Duke University and was an artist for 50 years.  He won a Guggenheim fellowship in painting in 1979, and showed his work at M. Knoedler from 1979-1986.  He was NewTalent Graphic artist of the year 1963 in Art in America. He never did serigraphs.  Typically  he painted very large acrylic abstract expressionist paintings.  He is a very early Second Generation abstract expressionist, showing at the Guggenheim Museum in1954 with Pollock, Motherwell, Kline, deKooning, etc. 

In addition to painting for over 50 years, and teaching mathematics for over 25 years, he wrote many math texts for the courses he taught, and after he retired from teaching raised 6 barns in New York State.  He died of complications of dementia in 2004.   ...  [Displaying 919 of 7229 characters.]  Artist bio
