Hubert De Groff Main

Hubert De Groff Main (1884 - 1954) was active/lived in New Jersey, Maine.  Hubert Main is known for Landscape painting, teaching.

Hubert De Groff Main (1884-1954) was a noted Maplewood, New Jersey based artist and teacher.  

Born in Newark, Main received his education at the New York School of Fine and Applied Art and at Pratt Institute.  He also studied portraiture with Wayman Adams.

During his career, Main was a member of several professional artist associations including the Salmagundi Club, Eastern Arts Association, Art Center of the Oranges, and the American Artists Professional League for which he served for two years as the president of that body's New Jersey chapter.

Also an educator, he taught for four years as a professor of art at Upsala College in East Orange where he served as artist in residence as well as functioning as the head of the art department at Eastside High School in Newark for thirty five years.
