Henry Macartney

Henry C. Macartney (1867 - 1957) was active/lived in California.  Henry Macartney is known for Coastal landscape, marine painting.

Born in Armagh, Ireland on September 15, 1867, "Harry" Macartney immigrated to northern California about 1890 and studied at the School of Design.  While a resident of San Francisco, he made painting forays into Marin County, Monterey, and the northern coast.  His paintings reflect the tonal qualities of those by his contemporaries Gottardo Piazzoni and Xavier Martinez.  His rare works are invariably of the highest quality and qualify him as one of early California's finest landscape painters. 

In his old age Macartney moved to his son Jack's home in Los Angeles.  He died at the Masonic Home in Decoto, California on May 21, 1957.
