Henrietta Mabel May

Henrietta Mabel May (1877/84 - 1971) was active/lived in Quebec, British Columbia / Canada.  Henrietta May is known for Landscape, figure, village scenes, portrait and still life painting.

Henrietta Mabel May (AKA: Mabel May; AKA: H. Mabel May) was a painter and educator. She was born in, and lived most of her life in, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  She died in Burnaby, British Columbia, where she had lived since 1951.  She has also lived and worked in Ottawa, Ontario (1938-1947).
 
Her medium was primarily oil paint.  Her subjects were landscapes, figures, village scenes, portraits, still life, harbour scenes and genre.  The locations are Montreal, the Eastern Townships (Quebec), the St. Lawrence River and the Laurentians.  There are also paintings from her travels in Europe.  Her styles were Impressionism, Plein Air and (later) Fauvism. They were much influenced by the French Impressionists and in later years, by A.Y Jackson (See AskART), a painting companion, and by the Group of Seven (see AskART glossary).
