Harold Laurence Gregor

Harold Laurence Gregor (Born 1929) is active/lives in Illinois, California.  Harold Gregor is known for Super real farmscape painting, structures.

An Illinois landscapist and educator, Harold Gregor is one of several Midwestern artists termed The Heartland Painters and is regarded as the Elder Statesman of the movement. (Gerald Peters Gallery).  In 1973, he began combining photography and abstraction to create "flatscape," a combination of realistic depiction of color with abstract handling of color.  He works primarily with watercolor but also paints with oil.  For him painting is an exploration "of color and color relationships.  . . .Colors are a balancing act.  Instead of creating contrasts between light and dar to create tension, he uses color" (33), which he applies with a great deal of layering---some mixed on the palette and some 'straight from the pan.'
