Gunian Zhang

Gunian Zhang (1905 - 1988) was active/lived in China.  Gunian Zhang is known for Scroll Painting, landscape scenes.

Zhang Gunian was the nephew of Feng Chaoran, a famous maritime expert. He studied painting under Uncle You Cheng and learned poetry and prose from Wang Tongyu. 

Zhang became famous at the age of sixteen when he painted the hanging grid in Shanghai. His landscape style was strong, secluded, deep, and green, and it was treasured by collectors. 

He later moved to Taiwan where his art became more refined. 

Zhang had several disciples including Wang Shouchang, Wang Beiyue, Yao Xuechen, and Jiang Xun.
