Gulumbu Yunupingu

Gulumbu Yunupingu (c.1945 - 2012) was active/lived in Australia.  Gulumbu Yunupingu is known for Modernist aboriginal art.

Gulumbu Yunupingu

An Australian Aboriginal artist and women's leader from the Yolngu people, Gulumbu Yunupingu was one of the most prolific artists from the region of the Northern Territory. She was a member of the Gumatj and sister of Aboriginal leader Galarrwuy Yunupingu.

Her art practice combines various elements of traditional Yolngu style and modern tendencies. Over the years she gained quite a recognition and was awarded on several occasions for her contribution to contemporary art. At the Australian National University in 2012, her painting on wood titled Garrurru (Sail) was installed, and unfortunately the same year the artist passed away.

She was one of nine featured artists in June, 2018 at the exhibition of the The Phililips Collection Museum exhibition titled Marking the Infinite: 9 Contemporary Women Artists from Aboriginal Australia.
