Grace H Russell Fountain

Grace H. Russell Fountain (1858 - 1942) was active/lived in California, Oregon.  Grace Fountain is known for Landscape painting, illustration.

Landscape painter and born in Yreka, CA on January 22, 1858, Grace Russell was raised in Ashland, Oregon. There in 1878 she wed James Fountain. She began painting about 1882, studied locally with Wm S. Parrott, and by the 1890s had established a studio in Portland where she taught small classes of women. While there she illustrated Joaquin Miller's Sea of Silence, which appeared in the September 1904 issue of Sunset magazine.

In 1907 she and her husband moved to Oakland, CA, which remained her home. She was active in the East Bay art scene and exhibited locally into the 1930s. Mrs. Fountain died in Oakland on Feb. 8, 1942.
