George Agnew Reid (AKA: G.A. Reid) was an important and influential Canadian painter, muralist, printmaker, educator and leader in the national art community.  He was President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*, President of the Ontario Society of Artists*, Principle of the Ontario College of Art, and one of the first Canadian artists to have an international reputation.  He had a lifelong commitment to public art and education.  He played an instrumental role in obtaining permanent funding and a staff for the National Gallery of Canada; in establishing the Art Gallery of Toronto (now the Art Gallery of Ontario); and in creating the Ontario College of Art [now the Ontario College of Art and Design U   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 20631 characters.]  Artist bio
