Ernesto Zepeda

Ernesto Zepeda (1943 - 2017) was active/lived in New Mexico, Arizona / Honduras.  Ernesto Zepeda is known for Indian figure and portrait painting.

Born in Honduras, Ernesto Zepeda studied sculpture at the School of Fine Arts, Tegucigalpa under renowned Mexican sculptor Mario Zamora, and later painted at the Art Institute of Chicago and with Alexander Chidichimo. 

A world traveler, Zepeda is most known for ethnic portraits, many of them based on his travels.  His work is associated with the Southwest Artists Group, and reflects Taos School mastery with his concentration on the Pueblos and Reservation life of the Southwest native peoples, together with his techniques drawing from the masters of classical modernism. 

Exhibitions include the Gold Coast Art Festival, Chicago, 1974-75, Southwest Artists, and galleries in New York, Central and South America as well as Europe and Canada.

He has enjoyed numerous one-man shows since 1978, including the Koshare Indian Museum in Colorado.  He lives and works in Santa Fe and Sedona, Arizona, as well as his native Honduras.
