Emile (Emil) Jacques

Emile (Emil) Jacques (1874 - 1937) was active/lived in Indiana, California, Michigan / Belgium.  Emile Jacques is known for Barbizon school marine and landscape painting, teaching.

Born in Moorslede, Belgium on July 17, 1874.  After art studies at the Beaux Arts Institute in Antwerp, Jacques was a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Mechlin, Belgium.  He arrived in Los Angeles in 1924, exhibited at Stendahl's, and by 1933 was living in South Bend, Indiana where he was head of the art school at the University of Notre Dame.  While in Europe, he painted murals of religious genre, but in the U.S. his subjects were regionalist scenes.  Jacques died in Bellaire, Michigan on Aug. 17, 1937.
