Carl Philipp Weber

Carl Philipp Weber (1849 - 1922) was active/lived in Pennsylvania / Germany, Europe.  Carl Weber is known for Romantic and pastoral landscape and coastal scene painting.

Carl Philipp Weber (sometimes with one terminal p on the middle name and occasionally (mistakenly) with Charles as a first name) was born in Darmstadt, Germany in 1849, probably late in the year. As an infant in 1853 he accompanied his parents to the United States, where they settled in Philadelphia. His father, a musician and music teacher, was also named Carl; he was the older brother of Paul Weber, a well-known artist who had earlier settled in Philadelphia and lived there with his family, which included a son, Carl, born Oct. 18, 1850.

Having the same name, being of nearly the same age, and both being landscape artists who lived and worked in Philadelphia for much of their lives, the Weber cousins have bedeviled auction catalog makers and art gallery biography writers, who have been unable to keep the two separate. Hence many paintings done by Carl Philipp are credited to his cousin Carl, and vice-versa.
