Bernard Baruch Zakheim

Bernard Baruch Zakheim (1896 - 1985) was active/lived in New York, California.  Bernard Zakheim is known for Easel and mural painter of genre and figure, social commentary.

Painter, wood sculptor, muralist, teacher. Born in Warsaw, Poland on April 4, 1896. Zakheim studied at the Applied Art School in Warsaw, Academy of Poland, Politechnicum in Danzig, and Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich. After coming to San Francisco in 1920, he continued his studies at the California School of Fine Arts.

During the 1930s he did several murals for the Public Works of Art Project. After 1941 he lived on a farm in Sebastopol, CA for many years.

Zakheim died in San Francisco on Nov. 28, 1985. Working in a style influenced by German Expressionism, he produced oils, watercolors, frescoes, and sculptures of Jewish and historical genre.
