Benjamin Canas

Benjamin Canas (1933/37 - 1987) was active/lived in El Salvador.  Benjamin Canas is known for Surrealist figure painting.

Benjamin Canas is considered one of El Salvador's most important artists. His works are greatly influenced by surrealism. Cañas often uses juxtapositions of carefully modeled and cartoon-like figures to produce a whimsical and sometimes frightening atmosphere. The artist has exhibited his works in his native country and the united states.

Benjamí­n Cañas studied painting at the Fine Arts School of San Salvador and architecture at the National University, in San Salvador. The artist also studied sculpture with Enrique Salaverria and Benjamin Saul, and ceramics with César Sermeño. His works have been exhibited in international museums including the OAS and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington. Many of his paintings and drawings are Surrealist.
