Arthur Durston

Arthur Durston (1897 - 1938) was active/lived in California.  Arthur Durston is known for Figure, genre-street-interior.

Painter. Born in Farnsborough, England on Feb. 27, 1897. Durston studied in San Francisco in 1921, Paris and England in 1924. During the 1930s he was active on the Federal Art Project in Los Angeles. He died there on Dec. 27, 1938. Just before his untimely death, he had gained considerable fame for his paintings of circus and burlesque performers. Exh: Berkeley League of FA, 1924; San Francisco Art Association, 1927-29; Artists Fiesta (LA), 1931; American Painters & Sculptors, LACMA, 1931; Foundation of Western Art (LA), 1939 (medal); Stendahl Galleries (LA), 1939 (memorial).
