Ambrose Duval

Ambrose Duval (Born c. 1765) was active/lived in Louisiana / France.  Ambrose Duval is known for Portrait and miniature painting, drawing, art education.

Ambrose Duval was among the earliest and most talented New Orleans miniature painters. He worked in the tradition of neo-classical portraiture, and his most important commission was a portrait of Louisiana's first Governor, William Claiborne.

He advertised in February, 1803 of his arrival from Europe and his services as a teacher of figures, landscapes, and flowers. He also called himself a naturalist and exhibited his collection preserved birds.
