Algernon Mayow Talmage

Algernon Mayow Talmage (1871 - 1939) was active/lived in England.  Algernon Talmage is known for Marine and landscape painting, teaching.

English-born artist Algernon Talmage studied under Hubert von Herkomer at the Herkomer School of Art in Bushey, and later at the St Ives School in Cornwall, where he founded an artists' club and tutored Emily Carr. In 1896, Talmage married Cornish artist Gertrude Rowe, and in 1900 he established the Cornish School of Landscape, Figure, and Sea Painting with fellow St Ives School artist Albert Julius Olsson. Later, Talmage and Gertrude ran their own art school. Talmage held his first solo exhibition in the Goupil Gallery, London, in 1909. His painting The Founding of Australia was unveiled at the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 1937. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in October 1902 and was a war artist on the Western Front in France.
