Alexander Kanoldt

Alexander Kanoldt (1881 - 1939) was active/lived in Germany.  Alexander Kanoldt is known for Still life and landscape painting.

Alexander Kanoldt was born on September 29, 1881 in Karlsruhe and died on January 24, 1939 in Berlin.  Kanoldt was a German painter and lithographer as well as the son of the painter Edmund Kanoldt.  He is considered one of the most important artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit.

In 1901 he began his studies in the class of Ernst Schurth at the Academy in Karlsruhe and from 1906 was a master student of Friedrich Fehr.  Here he met, among others Adolf Erbsloh and Hugo Troendle, with whom he formed a lifelong friendship.  In 1908 he moved to Munich, where he co-founded the "New Artists' Association of Munich" a year later.  This grouping is today regarded as the pioneer of the "Blue Rider".  The works of the French Cubists, whom he met on the exhibition, affect him long term and there are a number of typographical very elaborate color lithographs.
