Yehoshua Kovarsky

Yehoshua Kovarsky (1907 - 1967) was active/lived in New York, California / Israel, Lithuania.  Yehoshua Kovarsky is known for Abstract expressionist painting, decoration.

Yehoshua Kovarsky was steeped in Jewish dogma and tradition during his childhood in Vilna, Lithuania.  He was sent to Palestine when he was seventeen; there he lived and worked on a kibbutz.  He finished his art education in Paris, and then Kovarsky went back to Israel, where he isolated himself to paint in the ancient city of Safad, cradle of Jewish mysticism and cabalism, also known as an art colony.

With a reputation already made in Israel, Kovarsky and his wife moved to New York City in 1951.  He planned to return to Israel with his paintings and to take root there.

He exhibited in 1954 at the Annual Exhibition of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
