Eddie Martinez is a Brooklyn-based artist known for his unconventional combination of painting and drawing in his often abstract works. He was born in an unknown year and originally from Massachusetts. Martinez's works have apparent features of the graffiti painting of his youth and the works have the bold colors of street art and clear and expressionist lines. The images are imbued with a personal iconography with characteristic figurative elements - often wide-eyed people with eclectic headdresses shaped like abstract color blocks. There is a dynamic energy and rawness, and he creatively uses different combinations of oil, enamel, spray paint and collage elements on canvas. Martinez also produces both smaller and larger sculptures, mostly made from encountered materials such as rubber hoses, styrofoam, cardboard and metal scraps.
