Because delivering a message is not the artist's intentions. He does not expect the viewer to understand a work but that it arouses emotions in him, that it encourages him to use his imagination. 

The primary purpose of painting is the act of painting itself. He explores all the possibilities, all the nooks and crannies: shape, texture, pattern, color...
