Art for Sale
Alyce Frank

Alyce Frank (1932 - 2024) was active/lived in New Mexico, California.  Alyce Frank is known for Modernist western landscape painting.

A resident of Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico from 1962, Alyce Frank began painting seriously in 1973. Favorite subjects are the landscapes of northern New Mexico, the canyonlands of Utah, and Canyon de Chelly. She starts her paintings on site, but says: "I will not paint what I see." She doesn't want to be restrained by actual colors but wants the freedom to explore landscape forms and colors. Her work has been described as "chromatic exaggeration" and "visually explosive fauvist interpretations" of nature (Hassrick 221). She is not concerned with the details of landscape other than for the basic concepts on which to build her artistic interpretations.

A major inspiration for her style was a 1981 exhibition of German expressionism that focused on the power of the subject rather than the actual colors or shapes.
