Alfred Maurice was born on March 11, 1921 in Nashua, N.H. Following his service in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was an illustrator-draftsman, Maurice attended college and went on to become a well-known art educator and influential leader of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts during the 1960’s where he met Walt Disney and collaborated with the UpJohn Company on art museum building projects.

He was a prolific print-maker in his own right and painter of urban Chicago landscapes. His landscapes are known for bright colors and spare, angular buildings—showing the influence of working in the print medium for so many years.
