Thus the use of clay and loam is not only a reference to the land and its fertility, but was at the time also a means of boycotting Israeli painting materials. The artist understands cracks developing in the drying clay as an expression of an unresolved situation among his Palestinian people and their environment. - Provenance: Acquired by the consignor in 1993 in an exhibition organized by the Palestinian journalist Abed Othman in the apartment of a journalist friend in Cologne in the presence of the artist. - M. is one of the most important Palestinian artists. He studied at the Bezalel High School of Art and Design in Jerusalem from 1967-70. From the beginning of his artistic activity, Palestinian identity and aspirations have played a central role.
