Franz Hitzler

Franz Hitzler (Born 1946) is active/lives in Germany.  Franz Hitzler is known for Painting and sculpture.

Born and grown up in the Upper Palatinate, Franz Hitzler studied at the Art Academy in Augsburg from 1962 to 1964.  He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1967 to 1972, where he became a master student of Franz Nagel (1907-1976).  In the 1970s/80s Hitzler made a number of study trips through different countries, including Egypt, Italy, France and Tunisia.

Since 1997, the award-winning artist is a member of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste in Munich.  His multifaceted oeuvre includes paintings and other techniques such as sculpture, collage, drawing and graphic works.  Hitzler is deeply inspired by 'Art brut', but continuously develops new approaches such as the play with complementary and simultaneous contrasts.

Examples of his works are preserved at the MoMA in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.  The artist lives and works in Munich. (cbo)
