where the painter Piero Marussig (1897 Trieste - 1937 Pavia) lived during the years of the great war there is little information, for some he spent them “in his villa, outside the city, painting” (Giolli, 1920), for others instead he was interned in a concentration camp, probably for a short period. Of his activity in those years we have testimony through a series of paintings which Marussig evidently executed in his villa: the garden, the villa and glimpses of different angles of the park, along with everyday objects like flower vases, a parrot or a still life. The artist also painted several portraits in the filtered light in the interior of his home. We are in the midst of his so-called expressionist period (1912-1919) which follows the Venice Biennale of 1910 where Klimt had an entire room and Ca’ Pesaro dedicated an exhibition to Boccioni that same year.
