Elaine Day Dowdell (1931-2014) was a painting teacher with the Winston-Salem Arts and Crafts Association- later renamed the Sawtooth School- who specialized in plein aire landscape. Her paintings form part of over 50 corporate collections all over the United States, and her extensive oeuvre includes portraits, architectural landscape and still life.

Born June 8, 1931 in Ames, IA, Dowdell grew up in the Catskill Mountains, where her father was an instructor at West Point Military Academy.
