Peter Nagel was a German artist who was born in Hamburg. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg with Carl Heinz Wienert, Karl Kluth and Johannes Geccelli. In 1965, he founded the ZEBRA group with Dieter Asmus, Nikolaus Störtenbecker and Dietmar Ullrich, which stood for a new realism in Germany. Nagel used media imagery with the Zebra Group and developed "a kind of West German version of American pop art for the post-war society."
