Sepp Hilz

Sepp Hilz (1906 - 1967) was active/lived in Germany.  Sepp Hilz is known for Painting.

German painter; he learned to paint from his father Georg Hilz, a painter and restorer working mainly for Bavarian churches. With time, he began to help and even cooperate with his father. Copying paintings by old masters – Dürer, Cranach, Altdorfer – also gave him a lot. In the years 1921-1927 he stayed in Munich; studied at the local Kunstgewerbeschule and at the same time privately studied graphics with Moritz Heymann and painting with Xaver Dietrich. He also perfected his painting skills by painting numerous copies of paintings by Rembrandt, Vermer van Delft and Brouver. It was also then that he began to show his work at regional exhibitions and worked for Bavarian churches. In 1928 he returned to his hometown of Bad Aibling, where, together with a group of other young painters, he organized exhibitions and various cultural events. He worked a lot; in his pictures painted after 1930, critics see the influence of Wilhelm Leibel's art.
