Paul Merwart (1855 - 1902) was active/lived in Poland.  Paul Merwart is known for Painting.

Salon portraits of ladies are a specialty of Pawel Merwart's painting. The presented "Portrait of a Lady in a White Ball Gown" amazes with an extremely intricate painting palette: muted and almost monochromatic, maintained in a nude shade, which is broken with reflections of white, gray or green. The painter created an interesting background composition: behind the model there is a fabric with a Japanese pattern of fans and fragments of plants. Similar color solutions are known from the works of other outstanding portraitists of the end of the century: Giovanni Boldini, John Singer Sargent, and above all James McNeill Whistler, with whom Merwart is particularly strongly linked here with a muted palette, known for his "arrangements", "symphonies", "nocturnes" or the "harmony" of the American painter.
