Hermann Anton Stilke

Hermann Anton Stilke (1803 - 1860) was active/lived in Germany.  Hermann Stilke is known for Painting.

Born in Berlin, Hermann Anton Stilke received his first training there under Carl Wilhelm Kolbe the Younger. Younger. From 1821, at the age of eighteen, he was one of the first students in Peter Cornelius' class at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, following him to Munich in 1825. This was followed by a two-year stay in Italy (1828-1830) before Stilke returned to the Düsseldorf Academy in 1833. Here he joined Wilhelm von Schadow's class. From 1843 to 1847, he was commissioned by the Prussian king to fresco the small Knights' Hall at Stolzenfels Castle near Koblenz. Stilke returned to Berlin in 1850, where he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in 1854. 1850/51-1852/53 member of the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten.
