Henry Saint Clair

Henry Saint Clair (1899 - 1990) was active/lived in France.  Henry Saint Clair is known for Beach and harbor scene painting.

A native of Normandy, the artist Henry Saint-Clair later moved to Sotteville close to the pretty harbor of Honfleur.  At the beginning of his artistic career he was an art restorer for the French National Museum, including the Louvre.  He painted mostly in oil on painting cardboard and his main subject matters were scenes at the beach and the harbor of his home country.

The primary body of his work was created between 1920 and 1970.  This highly productive period was interrupted by the German occupation from 1941 until 1945.  The colors and the cheerfulness of the paintings of Raoul Dufy were of great inspiration to him.

Furthermore, Saint-Clair was interested in the painting style of Eugène Boudin and studied his work thoroughly.  In Honfleur, he worked with the artists André Hambourg, Fernand Herbo and Jacques Bouyssou jointly in a studio for some time.
