Hanna Zawa-Cywinska

Hanna Zawa Cywinska (Born 1939) is known for Painting.

The beginnings of Hanna Zawa-Cywinska's work were quite unobvious. She started her career as a mature woman. The artist then moved to New York. Of that time, she said, "We came to the United States with just $150, so it's no surprise that our tiny apartment was empty and was dominated by a fold-out travel table. I couldn't even dream of getting a journalistic job, we had no money to buy books, and when my son went to school, I was left alone in an empty house with nothing to do. So I started painting. The image needed imagination, just like the word, so it seemed close to me, especially since I have always liked to draw and paint” (Elzbieta Dzikowska, Artists say, Izabelin 2011). Shortly after that, she began studying advertising at New York's FIT university.Zawa-Cywinska's first works were created in the early 1980s. These were compositions built of colorful cables stretched on colorful backgrounds.
