Art for Sale
Carl Emil Uphoff

Carl Emil Uphoff (1885 - 1971) was active/lived in Germany.  Carl Uphoff is known for Painting.

Uphoff's artistic development dates back to 1907, when he was supported by art patron Karl Ernst Osthaus in Hagen in Westphalia and had modern art before his eyes in his museum Folkwang, founded in 1902. At the same time, Uphoff became a member of the "Folkwang-Kreis" in Hagen, amicably supported by Christian Rohlfs. Thanks to Osthaus, Uphoff was also able to travel to Paris in 1909 to become a pupil of Henri Matisse. But when the play "Wenn sie lieben" (When they love), written by Uphoff, was first performed at the theater in Hagen on 16 October 1910 and caused a theatrical scandal due to its "indecent content", he was forced to leave for Worpswede in 1911. There Uphoff was part of the circle of friends of the universal artist Heinrich Vogeler and was first with him one of the revolutionaries in 1918/19.
