Francesco Messina

Francesco Messina (1900 - 1995) was active/lived in Italy.  Francesco Messina is known for Sculpture, relief.

Francesco Messina was born in 1900.  He spent childhood and youth in Genoa, where he lived until he was thirty-two years old.  He learned the craft at the workshop of Giovanni Scanzi, and followed courses ligustica at the Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1934, he moved to Milan and began to work on sculpture.  He then became the director of the Academy of Brera. 

His most famous works include: the St. Catherine of Siena, located on the Tiber to Castel Sant'Angelo, the dying horse in front of the headquarters of the RAI, and the Monument to Pope Pius XII in St. Peter's Basilica.

The artist passed away in 1995.  His works are exhibited in numerous international museums, and in the church of San Sisto in Milan.
