Lucille (J) Corcos

Lucille (J.) Corcos (1908 - 1973) was active/lived in New York.  Lucille Corcos is known for Urban genre, magazine illustration, fine art painting.

Lucille Corcos studied with Jan Matulka at the Art Students League. Although her fellow
students— Irene Rice Pereira, Dorothy Dchncr, David Smith, and her future husband, Edgar Levy— later became involved in Surrealist abstract art, Corcos remained grounded
in a stylized realism that delineates the humor in every- day urban life.

During the early 1930s, she received a variety of commissions from Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, sophisticated magazines that found her combination of deliberate naivete and abstraction appealing.

Aside from her commercial work, Corcos produced paintings that were included in a number of museum exhibitions, among them several Whitney Annuals from 1936 to 1954.
