A prominent Canadian painter, graphic designer, muralist and commercial artist, Ray Cattell was born in Birmingham, England and has lived in Toronto, Ontario since immigrating to Canada in 1954. He has held senior executive positions with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*, the Ontario Society of Artists*, the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour*, and the Art Directors’ Club of Toronto.

His mediums include acrylics, oils, fresco, and watercolors. Although his easel works frequently have landscape or seascape titles and references, they are abstractions; the primary subjects being color, shape, line and texture. The artist describes his style as “Abstract Landscape Colourfield”; Color Field Painting* is also a good description of his style.
