Michèle Morgan, born Simone Roussel, was a French actress who appeared in over seventy films from the 1930s to the 1980s. In the 1970s, she shifted her focus to painting and created hundreds of drawings and paintings in various mediums. She announced the end of her acting career in 2001. While living in Hollywood from 1942 to 1946, she painted portraits of those around her and attended the Academy of Painting in Los Angeles. She was inspired by the Franco-Polish painter Moïse Kisling, who made her portrait in 1942
