Dordio Gomes was a contemporary painter from Portugal who was a disciple of Veloso Salgado, Jean Paul Laurens, and Ferdinand Cormon. He was known for his landscape paintings, particularly of the Alentejo region, as well as his portraiture and mural painting. He was a professor at the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto and fell in love with the city and the landscapes of the Douro, which he depicted in some of his most famous works. He was awarded the Columbano Prize and the António Carneiro prize for his work.
