Don Edelman, Texas painter-sculptor, whose work ranged from painterly Realism and "Happy Surrealism," was born in Bowie in 1925 and reared in Amarillo.

?He is treasured as the consummate artist - a painter's painter - who could do landscapes and portraits, children and horses - almost anything in all media. He knew how to lay on paint sensitively, exquisitely. His paintings have air in them. He handled atmosphere and light with ease. In his hands ordinary paints produced remarkable results: the gleaming chrome on a Harley headlamp might tempt a viewer into looking for his own reflection - for a moment - before laughing.

?In World War II Edelman enlisted in the US Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant, j.g. He was in the V-12 program at UT Austin.
