Arturo Mercado finished the race at 3:43 a.m. on Sunday June 21, 2015. He was surrounded by his wife, family and friends who comforted him with so much love, prayers and positive energy. Arturo was a man filled with many talents. He was one of the most amazing artists of our time. His oil paintings were vibrant, capturing serene Texas landscapes, the old west and beautiful wildlife.

An avid golfer, Arturo found joy in golf outings and tournaments with his sons Steven, John, Jody, David; cousins; nephews and friends.

He was a kind and giving person who loved his Catholic faith and his family and friends. He was a humanitarian. He was a founding member of Siempre Amigos, a local non-profit organization which raises funds for college scholarships for low income Hispanic students.
