Mahmoud Bakhshi was born in Tehran, where he graduated from the university’s Faculty of fine arts with his Bachelor in sculpture in 2001 and where he still lives.

Themes of his work are the exploration of cultural tradition and modern day life, conscious artistic independence and state authority. In 2010 Mahmoud Bakhshir won the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including the Saatchi Gallery in London, and are for example held by the collection of the Tate Modern in London. (tm)
