Roger Nivelt

Roger Nivelt (1899 - 1962) was active/lived in France.  Roger Nivelt is known for Painting.

A confirmed Orientalist and Africanist painter, he was awarded the gold medal at the Exposition Coloniale Internationale in Paris in 1931. In 1934, he was awarded the Abd-el-Tif prize, the Algerian Villa Médicis. He travelled through the Sud-Oranais region, where he painted many portraits. In 1935, he set off on a mission to the Hoggar, presenting scenes taken on the spot, true documents of great finesse, as they were executed on Japanese paper and enhanced with watercolor, One of his portraits is of a young Targuia woman. Paul Jouve bought this magnificent portrait from him. In 1965, at the request of Roger Nivelt's wife, Helenne Farey, Gaston Suisse lent this work to the restrospective devoted to Roger Nivelt by the Musée Galliera. Works by Roger Nivelt can be found at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, and museums in Algiers, Brussels, Douai and Noyer-sur-Serein.   ...  [Displaying 880 of 1115 characters.]  Artist bio
