Alexandre Benoliel

Alexandre Benoliel (1905 - 1930) was active/lived in Algeria.  Alexandre Benoliel is known for Modernist painting.

Alexandre Benoliel, born in Oran, Algeria in 1905, he turned out to be very early on to have the desire to paint. After having followed the teachings of the School of Fine Arts in Oran, he left Algeria to enroll at the Ecole de Beaux-Arts* in Paris.

His precocious talent, borrowing a serene sweetness, is reminiscent of Albert Marquet. Very quickly recognized, Alexandre Benoliel exhibited in 1926 and 1927 at the Salon d'Automne*, then in 1928 at the Salon des Indépendants.* Fit to compete for the Prix de Rome*, he died prematurely at the age of 25, from a jugular tumor.

Honored by a retrospective in Oran in 1930, the year of his death, his unjustly unrecognized work remains of the utmost rarity at public sale.
