Moshe Gershuni

Moshe Gershuni (1936 - 2017) was active/lived in Israel.  Moshe Gershuni is known for Painting and sculpture.

Moshe Gershuni was an Israeli artist born in 1936 in Tel Aviv. He grew up in a secular home with a religious education and was heavily influenced by religious teachings and the effects of the Holocaust. Gershuni's artistic path began in the 1960s with abstract sculpture and his first solo exhibition was unveiled in 1969 in the Israel Museum. In the 1970s, he produced works influenced by conceptual art and post-minimalist values, with biographical references to himself and his family. He was a member of the group "Metzer – Messer Project" and was fired from teaching at Bezalel due to controversy surrounding his support for experimental and political art. In the 1980s, Gershuni incorporated the memory of the Holocaust to a greater extent and used the color red in his works, referencing personal, zionistic, Muslim, and Christian symbols. He also worked on prints incorporating Jewish texts and iconographic elements.
