Rene Chambellan

Rene Paul Chambellan (1893 - 1955) was active/lived in New York, New Jersey.  Rene Chambellan is known for Monumental public sculpture, architectural modeling.

A sculptor and model maker, Rene Chambellan studied at New York University between 1912 and 1914 and from 1914 to 1917, was at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design.  In 1918, he went to Paris, and studied at the Academie Julian.  He was also a student of Solon Borglum, and collaborated with him on a dedication panel at Pershing Stadium in Vincennes, France. 

His New York City work includes architectural ornamentation at Rockefeller Center under the marquee above the entrance of the 1260 Avenue of the Americas entrance.  They are both decorative and informative because they introduce the coming stage events.   Also, "He was commissioned to create a number of major works and to model nearly all the architectural details, such as grilles, handrails, moldings, and elevator cabs and doors found in the Center."
