Pierce Connelly

Pierce Francis Connelly (1841 - 1932) was active/lived in Louisiana / Italy, France.  Pierce Connelly is known for Neo-Classical portrait bust and allegorical figure sculpture.

Pierce Francis Connelly became a 19th century Neo-Classical sculptor of allegorical marble figures and portrait busts and also did some easel painting. He was born in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, and was raised in England, but spent most of his life in Europe. His childhood was somewhat erratic as just before their son's birth, his parents had converted from Episcopalian to Catholic and then separated, finally divorcing with permission of the Pope. The father became a priest in Italy, and the mother founded the Society of the Holy Church Jesus in England.

Pierce Connelly attended school in England, and also spent time in Italy with his father, who had converted back to the Episcopalian Church and was serving as rector of the newly established American Episcopal Church in Florence.
