The following, submitted by Arnold Sturtevant, is from a memoir dictated to him by his wife, Leda Sturtevant.


In 1934, we moved from Madison to North Anson into a house offered by yet another of Dad's patients.  A two-story house, it was far more spacious than the 2nd-floor apartment in the Roach's house.  It offered much more comfortable accommodations for our growing family.  My new brother Bob and I each had our own bedroom, with more rooms left to spare.  If anything, I found the building too spacious.  The isolation of my private room fueled an increasing fear of the dark.

During her years in Massachusetts, Mom and a girl named Marjorie Very became close friends.  Marjorie was an accomplished young artist who had an unfortunate affair with a married professor by whom she bore a child named Gwen.  Marjorie's widower father was pastor of the church attended by my mother and grandmother.
